Tony (unaware of any weird stuff happening around him) flipped open his phone on the second ring. Amy didn't even bother with "hello".

"Actors," she said, "are extremely insecure."

Tony groaned. "You talked to Lee." She did. )

Tony took the train up to New York on Friday afternoon and had a quick dinner with Lee before the show. After the performance, the cast gathered in Lee's apartment for drinks and the Tivo'd Olympics Opening Ceremonies.

"Vancouver FUCK YEAH!" Tony and Lee gave each other high-fives at the start of the ceremony.

"Canada is awesome," Tony said after a few drinks, then repeated it several times until Lee finally put a stop to it.

"Of course it is," Lee said. "It's where I met you." He kissed Tony soundly, ignoring the cheers from the others.

Neither of them were eager to get out of bed the next morning. It took Tony a few minutes to realize the knocking wasn't just his head throbbing. Screw it. Lee's apartment, he can deal, Tony thought. He pulled the covers over his head as Lee dragged himself out of bed to answer the door.

Tony dozed off again, but woke a few minutes later with Lee shaking him. "Wake up, Tony, we gotta talk."

"Seriously, now?" Tony muttered, under the covers.

Lee yanked the blankets back and shoved a magazine in his face.

Darkest Night Star's Boytoy A Teen Prostitute!

Bisexual Star of Darkest Night Talks About His Boyfriend!

Tony snickered at the headline. He could just picture Mason curling his lip and saying, "He's a co-star."

Tony flipped through the pages until he found the article. Oh, man. Big photo of him and Lee hanging out in Lee's apartment from the photo shoot on Sunday. They sat together on the couch in a "this is totally not posed, rly" pose, in which Lee managed to look natural and Tony managed to not blink when the flash went off. He recognized another photo from the Darkest Night press kit and one that probably came from the Pong! The Musical press kit.

A sidebar article mentioned other celebrity bisexuals. Tony rolled his eyes. They make it sound like the latest fashion accessory. "Have a same sex romantic partner on your arm for all the spring photo ops!"

Lee told a heavily edited story about meeting Tony on the set of Darkest Night, leaving out the killer shadows, haunted houses and demons. He managed to drop in a plug for the show ("Returning Monday, February 8th!" the article helpfully added) and then he addressed his own sexuality.

"I've always liked women," the handsome actor says, relaxing on his couch, "I had thoughts about guys sometimes, but I figured I couldn't be gay. Didn't even think about being bisexual, y'know? When I was younger, you either were or you weren't. It wasn't until I met Tony that I started questioning myself." Lee flashes a grin at his production assistant boyfriend who blushes a brilliant pink as the attention turns to him.

Tony blushed again, reading the article. Did that reporter really have to include that?

"So what?" shrugs Alicia Hernandez, who co-stars with Nicholas in Pong! The Musical. "Lee's a great guy, no matter who he's dating. I just hope if they break up, he decides to give women a shot again." She flashes a seductive smile and this reporter can't imagine any guy turning her down.

Tony scowled at the page.
"I figure I'm lucky enough getting to sing with him every night." The love theme from the show, Player One Is Up, is now available on iTunes.

Tony groaned, dropped the magazine on his nightstand and flopped down on his bed. Then he snorted at himself. How many times had he looked at magazine pictures of Lee with some busty blonde and wished it'd been himself in the pictures? Be careful what you wish for! Really, it wasn't that bad.

Tony met Lee in his dressing room after the show. Despite having spent most of the last twenty-four hours together, Lee gave Tony a hug and kiss like they hadn't seen each other for months. They had to make up for all that time spent apart, after all.

"Lee!" Alicia, Lee's co-star, stuck her head in the open dressing room door. "You joining us for drinks tonight?"

"Got other plans," Lee told her.

Alicia grinned and winked at Tony, who blushed. "I bet you do," she said. "See ya tomorrow!" She ducked out, heading for adventures unknown.

Lee stuffed a couple of things in a backpack, zipped it up and slung it over his shoulder. They headed out of the theatre. No cabs were in sight at the moment, so Lee, after a quick glance around, pulled Tony into a nearby alley to kiss him again.

*FLASH*

Tony jerked his head up, searching for the source of the light. He realized a moment later that it was the last thing he should've done.

*FLASH FLASH FLASH*

He reached out his hand to call the camera to himself, anxious to remove the evidence and not even thinking of the consequences of using magic in front of a reporter.

"Don't," Lee said quickly, covering his Tony's outstretched hand with his own. "It's okay."

Tony hesitated for only a moment but it was long enough. The reporter dashed off. "It's going to be all over the Internet," he sighed.

Lee nodded. "Had to come out sooner or later. I'll call my publicist and she'll put a good spin on it." He pulled his phone from his pocket and gave Tony a quick kiss. "It's a relief, actually."

"Kinda late, isn't it?" Tony asked.

Lee grinned. "Timing's everything in P.R. Besides, I'm sure my bill will include an appropriate charge for the inconvenience." He hit a speed dial button and held the phone to his ear. "Jill!" he said a moment later. "You know that thing we were discussing? Time to go live."

One of Lee's castmates from Pong! The Musical had hosted a gathering after the show last night and Tony and Lee didn't make it back to Lee's place until nearly four a.m. And it was quite a while before they went to sleep that morning.

Brunch, then, was closer to lunch, or maybe brinner, but it was eggs and toast and the works in a little café less than an hour after they'd dragged themselves out of bed, so brunch was what they called it.

After they'd eaten the meal and were lingering over coffee, the conversation turned to Tony's inevitable return to school.

"So," Lee said, playing with his coffee stirrer. "Do you and your friend Jack still have a 'friends with benefits' thing going?"

Tony raised his eyebrows at the question but nodded. "Yeah, sometimes," he said. "Is that... okay with you?"

Lee's coffee was certainly getting well-stirred. "What if it wasn't?" he asked, finally.

Tony felt a thrill of hope? excitement? lust? Something, anyway. "If I were to stop seeing other people, then I'd want the same from you," he said, keeping his tone casual. Thinking, in particular, of how Lee's co-star, Alicia ("Player 2") had been looking at Lee last night.

Lee nodded. "That's fair." He found Tony's hand under the table and squeezed it lightly. "We're not half a world apart any more. I don't want to be with anyone but you. Does that work for you?"

Jumping up and cheering would be extremely immature, Tony decided, so he settled for a grin. "Yeah," he said simply. "It works for me."

Tony lost his phone on Christmas Eve. He'd agonized for two hours over an appropriate gift for Lee's mom, finally deciding that a scented candle struck the right tone of being thoughtful and appropriate while remaining respectful. He hoped. He'd gotten his phone out to call Lee when he spotted an open cab and dashed for it. The phone flew from his hand into the gutter where it was promptly swept into the sewers.

For about half a second, he considered going after it, but he decided that introducing Mrs. Nicholas to her son's first boyfriend would be difficult enough without adding in a sewer stench. Besides, it had been an old phone and it wasn't likely that anything down in that frozen, stinking slush would be running up his phone bill. What could survive down there this time of year, anyway? Alligators? The most expensive part of his bill was the texting fees and alligators didn't have thumbs.

(Dinner with Lee's mom went surprisingly well. Granted, Tony would've taken nearly anything short of being burned at the stake as "going well", but even Lee had been pleased with the outcome.)

Tony didn't want to deal with the retail crowds on Boxing Day and with one thing and another, it wasn't until Monday afternoon that he got a replacement phone. And then discovered he had a message. Crap. He called Dinah's number right after he heard the message.

Tony vaguely remembered hitting his alarm a few times, but he didn't actually wake up until the sun was fully in his face. He blinked, rubbed his eyes and pulled his blanket over his head.

Wait. Wasn't there something he was supposed to -

He sat up abruptly and reached over to the nightstand for his phone. It wasn't there. He found it a few minutes later, crammed between the mattress and the box spring of his bed. He suspected he'd shoved it there to keep it quiet at some point during the night. Tony missed a couple of calls from Lee )

It wasn't that Jack was tired, exactly, more that he was concerned and frustrated and wished he could do something of some use. And somehow that expressed itself with a heavy head and a dependence on coffee. He was refilling his mug for the fourth time in two hours.

It took a lot of coffee to be Raymond Dark's eyes and ears in the daylight, so Lee was refilling his cup about the same time. He nodded a greeting to Jack. "You go to that school with Tony, don't you?"

''We' re both going into our last year,'' Jack confirmed as he gave the man the best once-over he could manage without it being obvious. The eyes and ears in the daylight were even more attractive in person. ''Are you close with him?''

"I've gotten to know him a bit better this summer," Lee said. "Are you close with him?"

Tony hoped he was dreaming although, given the way his life had been lately, he figured there was a fifty-fifty chance he was actually physically standing somewhere… white. White up above, white all around, white and solid underfoot. At least he was dressed. One of those naked and somewhere white dreams would be more than he could handle right about now.

If he was dreaming.

About a third of the way down the massive wooden staircase the older of the two tuxedo-clad men paused, head up, nostrils flaring as though he were testing a scent on the air. “We’re not . . . alone.”

“Well, there’s at least another twenty invited guests,” his companion began lightly.

“Not what I meant.” Red-gold hair gleamed as he turned first one way then the other. “There’s something . . . else.”

“Something else?” the younger man repeated, suspiciously studying the portrait of the elderly gentleman in turn-of-the-century clothing hanging beside him. The portrait, contrary to expectations, continued to mind its own business.

“Something . . . evil.”

Cut for canon. )
