It wasn't that Jack was tired, exactly, more that he was concerned and frustrated and wished he could do something of some use. And somehow that expressed itself with a heavy head and a dependence on coffee. He was refilling his mug for the fourth time in two hours.

It took a lot of coffee to be Raymond Dark's eyes and ears in the daylight, so Lee was refilling his cup about the same time. He nodded a greeting to Jack. "You go to that school with Tony, don't you?"

''We' re both going into our last year,'' Jack confirmed as he gave the man the best once-over he could manage without it being obvious. The eyes and ears in the daylight were even more attractive in person. ''Are you close with him?''

"I've gotten to know him a bit better this summer," Lee said. "Are you close with him?"

"I like to think so, but I've only known him since May," Jack answered. "You've probably gotten more time with him on the set."

"Oh, I don't know," Lee said. "Set time isn't really quality time. What's it like at that school? The rules strict or do you get to socialize a lot?"

Jack put a not-hard-to-fake-at-all touch of flirtation into his smile. "Are you trying to ask if we're seeing each other, Lee?"

Lee shrugged and gave Jack an easy-going smile back. "Just curious about Tony's school for wizards."

"We aren't all wizards, you know," Jack said lightly. "I'm not, or Dinah, or Arthur."

Three perfectly normal teenagers, they were.

"And no, it's not particularly strict."

"That's good," Lee said, his smile not quite reaching his eyes. "So are you and Tony seeing each other?" He did his best 'since you brought it up...' tone.

Jack coughed out a laugh. He had walked into that one. "In our way," he said vaguely. "He's a special person, but I don't think either of us is looking for anything serious."

And if Tony hinted at anything else, Jack would stick his fingers in his ears and run away.

"That's good," Lee said. "You kids are young. No reason to get tied down just yet." The aged wisdom of a twenty-one-year old.

Jack had been tied down since he was old enough to think about it, but no use pointing that out just now. "Not to a school friend, at least," he said. "What about you, are you seeing anyone?"

"I go out sometimes. No one special," Lee said.

"I can't imagine pretending to be the eyes and ears in the light leaves much time for the social whirl, at least when you're filming," Jack said.

He could have flirted, but he wanted to say that phrase more. Which was quite possibly a sign he was getting old.
