Tuesday Night, Vancouver, Caulfield House
Jul. 7th, 2009 06:35 pmThe doors to the Caulfield House slammed shut exactly at sunset, trapping nineteen people inside. Nineteen living people, that is. Tony had no idea how many ghosts were trapped inside with them, but given that an entire ballroom full of people had been murdered and that was only one of the many horrific acts that had been committed here, he was good with making a rough guess and saying lots. And each murder was being replayed - relived - well, re-experienced - while the malevolence in the house tried to drive the actual breathing folks insane so they'd kill each other and make more ghosts.
Two of the people trapped were children - Ashley and Brianna, the boss's daughters. They were on the set of Darkest Night's latest episode to play ghosts. Tony would probably appreciate the irony better when everyone was safely out. Two of the people in the house were friends - real friends, not just nod-in-the-hallway friends. Hell, Tony and Zev had even gone out a couple of times before Tony'd gone off to school. And Amy was Amy.
One of the people trapped in the house was Lee Nicholas. Tony wouldn't say they were friends, exactly. They'd never shared a beer. But Tony'd been working on this crush for over a year, now, and no way was he letting the actor get hurt on his watch.
Yeah. His watch. He was the wizard. Hell, he was the only one that even believed in the supernatural, other than Amy, and this was the first time she'd seen anything happen. Admittedly, the others in the house were becoming believers rapidly - nothing like being trapped in a homicidal piece of architecture to alter your worldview - but Tony was the only one with experience here and it was his duty to get everyone out alive.
Already fucked that up, though. He couldn't stop Tom from charging at the window, trying to break out - couldn't stop him from being crushed to death on impact with a house that wouldn't allow him to damage it. He couldn't stop Hartley from wandering off and getting possessed and he couldn't stop Brenda from getting her throat slashed by Hartley.
He couldn't stop Lee from kissing him against the kitchen counter... okay, he didn't actually want to stop that, but he'd rather that it hadn't come as a reaction to Brenda's death. Nothing like being the substitute for a dead wardrobe assistant.
Deadly danger, right. Now he just needed to use his wizardly powers to destroy the thing in the basement and get everyone out before the house got them to go insane and kill each other. If he failed, they'd spend eternity acting out their own deaths over and over. Though on the bright side, if he failed, he'd never have to face Lee in the morning and talk about feelings.
[Smoke and Mirrors again, the highly condensed version. To be continued!]
